The Celtics may have not matched the drama of the West as far as trades but are making a little noise in the East. The signing of PJ Brown and for now, rumor of Sam Cassell may be enough to send the Celtics to the top in the East. But will that be enough?
The West is, without doubt, the better conference. Any one of five teams could win the Eastern conference if they were situated here. The Mavericks, Suns and Lakers have made dramatic changes recently. How those moves pan out are like trying to guess Oprah's weight. You never know?
At least the Celtics are admitting one thing. They may have all the pieces in place and are one or two moves away from winning. The Celtics have to become what the Red Sox, Yankees, Patriots and Spurs have already become. That is a team that can luir veterans who have already made their money to a team that can promise or at least potentially be in the NBA finals.
The problem for the Celtics is that they have not sniffed the finals for 20 years. However the personality of Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen may get them those guys over the next few weeks. (Paul Pierce is a great player but guys weren't coming to Boston just to play with him). Will it be enough? Older NBA players are prone to injury if they are counted on for major minutes. That would not be the case with these two additions. Cassell appears to have enough left in the tank to make some noise but PJ Brown hasn't played in over 6 months. What's a matter Danny? Couldn't get Karl Malone out of retirement?
This should be interesting. If the Celtics don't go to the finals in June the reason being was they were not good enough and did not have enough depth and that means Celtic fans will point back to this time frame as to why they did not get it done.
