In the last several months, a NFL QB pleads guilty to being involved in illegal dogfighting, a MLB player, who happens to have broken Hammering Hank Aarons' most homers records, is indicted for perjury for lying about using performance enhancement drugs. And very recently,two(2) rising stars, one from each of the above leagues mentioned. Both had their careers and lives ended by violent deaths. We are once again reminded that fame and fortune, can cost dearly.
Our society praises and loathe today's athletes. The athlete has a tremendous burden to carry. We, the owners, coaches, and fans, put these persons under such tremendous pressure to fulfill our desire to own, coach, and cheer for a winner. Why is it, that people who have other than athletic talent, feel superior and degrade these gifted human beings? It might be, there is a petty jealousy toward these professionals, who, like them, have worked hard in developing their skills. Or could be the money, fame, and influence these individuals have attained. It is apparent that people look at today's athlete, differently than those of the past. The present day athlete, is paid more, has better facilities for training, and some have excellent endorsements.
The Final Game of the Season
Now that the regular season is officially completed, here comes the NFL playoffs. Before, we get started on who may beat the Pats. Lets have a moment of silence for the NFC/Vikes,Saints & AFC/Browns...for not taking care of business to make to the playoffs.
As a football fan, it amazes me that the teams who have secured spots in the playoffs tend to to rest their players. I give credit to the G-Men (N.Y.) for having the guts to play their starters in the game vs. the PATS. The Pokes vs. Skins was a joke, as well as the Colts vs. Titans. Yeah, I know, teams are trying to avoid injuries to the starters. But come on man, at this time of the season, you have front line players nicked up. It takes away from the integrity of the games. With their starters playing, do you really believe the Skins could easily have beaten the Pokes? Look,I'm all for keeping players from further injury, but what about the fans looking for a good game? The Colts fans were booing the team's lack of effort in the last minutes of the game, with a chance to win.I just believe any team, playoff bound or not, should play out the last game of the season, with the same effort as the first game of the season.
The C's smacked the Lakers and the Laker hype machine will have to wait another day. The Lakers looked like world champs after taking out the Suns on national TV on Christmas. But this game was never close. The Celtics were up 11 after the first quarter, 12 at the half and 20 after the third.
Story of the game was Kobe's horrific shooting (6 for 25) and the throwback shorts the Lakers sported. The Lakers hyped the game up, had a video tribute and wore the throw back shorts to try and rattle the new Celtics and pump up their fans. It didn't work.
What was the price? The Lakers may have lost some "street cred" in the NBA because of this poor fashion choice. Not likely the throw back shorts will be sported by the top rappers any time soon. Laker girls?....Maybe. The tight shorts never hurt John Stockton's game. As he wore them his whole career. Perhaps, the Lakers should have signed him for this one game. The worst Laker in tight shorts? Perhaps Andrew
Bynum.
At times the Celtic fans could be heard chanting, "Hey Kobe, What ya gonna do with dat junk. dat junk, in your trunk. Dat junk in your L...A....Trunk"
This game was heated. With seven technical fouls, one flagrant foul (Lamar Odom) and two stitches for Kevin Garnett.
The player of the game goes the Tony Allen who filled in for Rajon Rondo. He played a season high 42 minutes and scored 16 points.
Where have you gone John Stockton? Bring the tight shorts back!
