The regular season in the NBA has just been completed. A few things to mention, as the stated title asks. I still don't believe how the Boston sport franchise was able to dominate its league. The Celtics started off strong, winning 8 games in a row, 18 out of 20...on the way to a 66-16 season.
The acquisition of Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, (who is my MVP), along with Paul Pierce, transformed the team, from 24 wins in 06-07 and a shell of the Celtics of Russell/Havlicek/Bird championship teams to bringing back "Celtic Pride" and the largest turnaround, in wins (+40), in NBA history. Lets hope this franchise doesn't fall to the same fate as their brethren in the football world.
I still don't believe how the teams in the Western Conference fought until the last day of the season for the eight playoff spots allotted to the conference. All 8 teams ending with 50 or more wins. From the improbable, before/after All Star break, leader New Orleans Hornets to perennial West Conference power L.A. Lakers finally overtaking the Hornets, the last weekend of the season, for the top spot.
The Houston Rockets and a 22 straight game winning streak, 10 of them without All Star center Yao Ming, was the second longest streak in NBA history. The Utah Jazz, unbeatable at home, but terrible on the road, the Phoenix Suns with "Big Shaq" and the Dallas Mavericks with Jason Kidd bolstering their chances for a championship. The Wild,Wild West Conference kept the league and the fans excited and on the edge.
I still don't believe how the Miami Heat, New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets fell so low. The Heat, two years earlier, were the NBA champs. Dwayne Wade was heaping praise on Shaq as the leader of the team. Rewind to the beginning of the season and Shaq, who is "injured" and doesn't play in many of the games, is traded to the Suns. Wade, has a season ending injury, midway through the season. And the Heat never recovered, winning only 15 games.
